Hi, I'm Charlie, the person behind Music of the 70s. I live in Blackfalds, Alberta, and now that I'm retired I finally have the time to dig into the thing I've loved my whole life: music.

Why 70s Music Matters to Me

The 1970s were my teenage years. I finished high school in 1975, went on to trade school from '75 to '77, and turned 22 as the decade wrapped up. Those were the years I really started listening to music for myself – the radio was always on, and I began building my own collection of albums.

That's what makes the 70s special to me. It's the music I discovered on my own, not something handed down. Songs on the car radio, records I saved up for and played until I knew every word, albums passed around between friends. It was the soundtrack to growing up, finding my way and figuring out what came next.

What I still love about the decade is how much ground it covered. One minute it's a guitar-driven arena anthem, the next it's a quiet ballad, and then a dance floor hit that nobody can sit still for. Some of the biggest bands and songwriters in history did their best work in those ten years, and the songs still hold up today.

When a 70s song comes on now, it can take me right back to those years – where I was, who I was with, and what life felt like at that age. That's a big part of why I write about this music.

I'm not just interested in chart positions and sales figures, although you'll find plenty of those here. I like the stories behind the songs, how they were made, who made them, and why they still matter to so many people. Whether you lived through the 70s or you're discovering this music for the first time, I hope this site helps you find something worth turning up.

Life Outside the Music

Music is at the core of who I am, and it's a big part of our family too. I share life with my wife Natalie and our dog Gracie, and nothing beats time with our adult kids, grandkids, family and friends. When I'm not writing, you'll probably find me camping, fishing or out on the road somewhere new.

Why I Build Websites

I have a bit of an obsession with building websites and creating content. I love learning how search, SEO and AI tools work, then putting what I learn into practice. Learning and doing is a big part of who I am, and this site is one of the places where that shows.
